Once there was a wedding, and Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite were invited. Eris, the god of discord, was not invited. The weddinng went well until Eris barged in and threw a golden apple. He said the apple was for the fairest goddess of them all. Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite all stepped forward. The three goddesses soon got into a quarrel over the golden apple. Zues decided that he would have someone pick who to give the apple to. He picked a young shephard, the prince of Troy named Paris.
The three goddesses all offered Paris something. Hera said she would give him all of Asia. Athena said she would make Paris the wisest man of all. But Aphrodite told Paris that she would give him the most beautiful woman in the world. Aphrodite didn't remember that the most beautiful woman in the world was married.
Helen, the queen of Sparta, was married to the king of Sparta. Helen did not like her husband, though. Paris sailed over to Sparta, got through the guards, and asked Helen to come to Troy with him. Helen happily agreed, and they headed to Troy.
Helen and Paris were happily in love. But, the king of Sparta was so furious, that he wanted a war. This became the famous Trojan War. Troy lost and Paris died. Helen was sent back with the king, and she again was unhappy, living with her husband. That is the action-filled story of The Apple of Discord.
